How to Fill Your Beanbag: Step-by-Step Guide

Learn how to top up / fill your beanbag with polystyrene beans / beads the right way, without causing a mess! Filling a beanbag correctly ensures comfort and durability. Instructions apply to various shapes and sizes e.g. the classic pear-shaped bean bags, cushions, loungers, pouffes etc.

What You'll Need:

1) Beanbag cover or partially filled beanbag.

2) Beanbag filling (EPS polystyrene beads).

3) A second person (optional, but helpful, also depends on the size of the beanbag e.g. huge jumbo adult-sized bean bags).

Step 1: Open the Beanbag Cover.

Scenario A :  If the beanbag cover has a netting bag inside.

  • Carefully unzip the beanbag.
  • Find the end of the netting bag ( which should be loosely knotted ) and unknot carefully.

Scenario B :   If the beanbag cover is double zipped.

  • Carefully unzip the beanbag (usually 2 separate zips running in opposite directions - unzip both).

Step 2: Start Filling the Beanbag.

Scenario A :  If the beanbag cover has a netting bag inside.

  • Place the mouth of the top up filling plastic bag well inside the end of the netting, so that the beads can be poured in gently.
  • Shake the beanbag gently, if required, to get the beads to move to the bottom of the beanbag.
  • If you have a second person helping, they can hold the netting open for you, while you pour the beads.

Scenario B :  If the beanbag cover is double zipped.

  • Place the mouth of the top up filling plastic bag well inside the beanbag cover, so that the beads can be poured in gently.
  • Shake the beanbag gently, if required, to get the beads to move to the bottom of the beanbag.
  • If you have a second person helping, they can hold the coveropen for you, while you pour the beads.

Step 3: Seal and Shake the Beanbag.

Scenario A :  If the beanbag cover has a netting bag inside.

  • Tie a firm knot in the netting close to the end of the netting ( leave approx. 10 cm so that beads can move freely inside the netting bag ).
  • Close the zip and tuck the zipper under corners of the fabric at the end of the zipper track.
  • Shake the beanbag to spread the beads evenly inside and turn beanbag to the correct position.

Scenario B :  If the beanbag cover is double zipped.

  • Close both of the zips on the cover and tuck the zipper under corners of the fabric at the end of the zipper track.
  • Shake the beanbag to spread the beads evenly inside and turn beanbag to the correct position.

Et voila! You have your final beanbag.
